Hurricane Electric was one of the first companies in the world, that started they journey with IPv6. In 2001 they had, almost everywhere, implemented native IPv6 and they started with a tunnel broker service.

The idea of tunnel broker is simple. Hurricane Electric allows to connect to their IPv6 backbone over a virtual tunnel over IPv4. A lot of fans and companies that want to use and test IPv6 have they own connection to the Hurricane Electric IPv6 cloud.

Few years after they started the story with IPv6, HE decided to provide ownIT certification program. The certification and the learning materials are free. In the certification process your goal is to build your own IPv6 infrastructure (details later). When you end the certification process you will get knowledge the Sage title and you will receive a free T-Shirt (the T-Shirt itself is worth the effort).

The certification process has many levels from Newbe to IPv6 Sage.
At this moment you can find 4193 Sages around the world with 4193 unique T-Shirts.

Questions and Answers

Q: What is the real value of the IPv6 certification? I haven’t seen any real job offers that require the Sage certification.
A: The real value is the practical knowledge about IPv6. During all tests you will learn how to configure and troubleshoot IPv6 protocols and services on Linux or Windows-based systems. Also one of the biggest advantages is the HE T-Shirt. That is maybe funny, but when Hurricane Electric started with the T-Shirts, the number of the Sages increased almost over 1000% (day before – 289 new sages, day after 2424 new sages).
