PMI-ACPThe PMI-ACP certification is the newest product created by Project Management Institute.

Gartner predicts that by the end of 2012, agile development methods will be used on 80% of all software development projects.

If you company use agile practices with your IT team, the PMI-ACP can provide an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of agile practices. It is the first certification that represents complete definition of agile.

The exam is not based on a specific agile methodology (Scrum, XP, TDD, etc…), but covers principles, practices, tools and techniques across agile methodologies.

What Exams You Must Pass to Become a PMI-ACP Certified

You must pass only one exam PMI-ACP (CA0-002).

To become a PMI-ACP certified you must meet ALL the requirements:

  • General Project Experience
    • 2,000 hours working on project teams
    • These hours must be earned within the last 5 years
  • Agile Project Experience
    • 1500 hours working on agile project teams or with agile methodologies
    • These hours are in addition to the 2,000 hours required in “general project experience”
    • These hours must be earned within the last 3 years
  • Training in Agile Practices
    • 21 contact hours earned in agile practices

To register to the exam you must visit the Certification PMI website and login or register (for free). Choose “Apply for PMI-ACP Certification” and follow the instructions.

PMI can do an audit of your information provided in an application form.

Format of the Exam

It is a normal computer-based test. You have 3 hours to answer 120 questions. (single and multiple-choice)

During a registration process you need PMI Eligibility ID. You will receive this information after providing your experience information and paying for the exam.

Where You Can Pass the PMI-ACP Exam

You can pass the exam in the nearest Prometric center. Just visit this website and click “Schedule your exam” for PMI-ACP. Next “schedule an appointment” and then follow the instructions.

When you cannot find a Prometric center, you can pass a paper-based test. More in this document.

How Much Does the PMI-ACP Exam Cost

The exam costs $495 or $435 (PMI members).
You will receive information how to pay for the exam after ending with your application process.

How To Renew your PMI-ACP Certification

The certification is valid for three years.
To renew your PMI-ACP certification you must to obtain 30 PDUs (Professional Development Units) per three-year cycle. On the list of activities you can find:

  • Courses offered by PMI’s R.E.P, chapters or communities
  • Continuing education
  • Self-Directed learning
  • Creating new project management knowledge
  • Volunteer services
  • Work as a professional in project management
